Built for the people who camp on base.

VetCamps started as a personal project while we were planning our own trips.

FamCamp information has always been out there, but it was fractured. Scattered across the web, outdated, thin on details, or in disagreement from one source to the next. What we wanted was one app with all public and military campgrounds, and the highest bar for FamCamp details. Hookups, gates, check-in, weighed and measured, all on one map.

That is our mission. A tool built specifically for military campers, veterans, and their families. Not a side project, an afterthought, or a civilian hand-me-down. A living record of military campgrounds and FamCamp information, kept current by our community.

A community project

The other half of the idea is the part we care about most. This community knows more about these camps than any website ever will, but that knowledge is spread out through several groups, across thousands of threads, and it's buried a week after someone posts it. Nobody outside the military community is going to keep FamCamp information organized and current, so we have to do it ourselves. That is what the VetCamps app and the Facebook group are for. We share what we know in the group, and the useful information goes in the app so the next person can get a straight answer instead of digging through a dozen posts.

How the record is kept

We start with official sources and how recent they are, then cross-reference until the picture holds. If the community verifies a fact from a real stay, that can become the record too. If something has changed or is wrong, we update it. The information belongs to the travelers. We verify it and record it so a good correction lives in one place instead of getting buried in a thread. One camper's hard-won detail should be waiting for the next family through that gate.
