1. Purpose and scope

This disclosure explains where facility and map information comes from, how dollar-sign price tiers and ratings are derived, and addresses intellectual property and limitations of liability at a high level. It supplements our Privacy Policy and any Terms of Use we publish for VetCamps.

2. How we obtain place and facility data

2.1 Public and open sources only

VetCamps compiles information about campgrounds, recreation areas, parks, VA and related facilities, and on-base military amenities solely from open or public-domain sources. We do not bundle or redistribute data from proprietary services whose terms prohibit display on third-party map platforms.

2.2 Named data sources — on-base military facilities

Coordinates and details for on-base facilities (commissaries, exchanges, fuel stops, medical) are sourced exclusively from:

2.3 Named data sources — campgrounds and recreation

2.4 Manual curation, telephone, and direct outreach

Some campground and facility data — including nightly rates, hookup availability, access policies, and contact details — is collected through direct outreach by the VetCamps team. Methods include:

Information gathered through direct outreach is recorded in our internal dataset, tagged with the collection date and source, and updated as corrections are received. We make no guarantee that information remains current after collection and encourage users to always confirm pricing, availability, and eligibility directly with the facility before traveling. Additionally, we rely on a crowdsourced network of active users to physically verify and update logistical details, ensuring our dataset evolves organically.

2.5 Pending-verification records

Some facility locations are in a transitional state tagged internally as legacy_pending_verification. These records are displayed in the app with a visible disclaimer advising users to confirm the location independently. We are actively replacing these records with open-source or gov-verified coordinates.

2.6 Bundled and merged datasets

Parts of our catalog are bundled in the app or loaded from curated files we build from the public sources listed above. We do not assert ownership over underlying facts (generally not copyrightable in the U.S.), but we assert rights in our selection, arrangement, expression, database structure, and app UI to the extent protectable by law.

2.7 Third-party maps and infrastructure services

The app uses Mapbox as its map engine. Map tiles, imagery, and routing are subject to Mapbox's Terms of Service and attribution requirements. The Mapbox logo and attribution control are displayed in the map view as required by Mapbox.

VetCamps does not use Google Maps Platform or any Google Places API. All place ratings in the app are sourced exclusively from VetCamps user reviews.

2.8 Cell coverage data — OpenCelliD and FCC public datasets

Cell tower coverage estimates displayed in the app's Signal Check feature are derived from tower location data provided by OpenCelliD (opencellid.org), licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). Coverage overlays may also incorporate public broadband availability datasets published by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). FCC source data is subject to FCC terms, notices, and dataset-specific usage conditions published by the FCC. Coverage polygons and overlays are estimates derived from these inputs and do not represent official carrier coverage maps. Actual signal may vary.

2.9 Speed test infrastructure

The in-app network speed test measures download and upload throughput using Cloudflare's public speed measurement endpoint (speed.cloudflare.com). Results are community-contributed and associated with campground locations. Cloudflare is a trademark of Cloudflare, Inc. VetCamps is not affiliated with or endorsed by Cloudflare.

2.10 No endorsement

References to the U.S. Department of Defense, military services, National Park Service, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Veterans Affairs, or other entities are for identification and user convenience only and do not imply sponsorship, endorsement, or official affiliation unless expressly stated in writing by that entity.

3. User-generated content

The only user-generated content we incorporate for community features is content submitted by VetCamps users through the app (e.g., place reviews, community posts, comments, profile fields, moderation-related metadata as described in our Privacy Policy). We do not purchase private social-media feeds or closed third-party UGC datasets as our community corpus.

4. Dollar-sign price tier ($–$$$$$)

VetCamps may show a relative price tier using one to five dollar characters ($ through $$$$$). This is not a price guarantee, contract, or quote. It is a coarse index derived from stated campground pricing where we can infer a typical minimum daily rate in U.S. dollars (USD), from official websites, email, phone, and structured or unstructured text in public listings (e.g., “Sites & rates” tables). We do not use undisclosed private rate feeds from unrelated parties as the authoritative source for our tier.

Fixed brackets (implemented in application logic):

When a range is given, we use the lowest plausible daily value for tiering (subject to parsing rules). Weekly/monthly/military/holiday/tax variations may not be fully reflected. Currency is treated as USD; non-USD-only quotes may be mis-tiered or lack a tier. If no reliable daily rate can be inferred, no tier is shown.

Always confirm current pricing and eligibility with the official facility or reservation system before booking or traveling.

5. Star ratings and reviews

All star ratings displayed in the app are from ratings voluntarily submitted by VetCamps users. They are opinions, not facts, and do not constitute our endorsement of any facility. VetCamps does not display third-party ratings from Google, Yelp, or any other external platform.

6. Copyright, trademarks, and compilations

Facts (addresses, coordinates, published rates) are generally not copyrightable; databases of facts may receive thin protection in selection or arrangement. We respect others’ rights in expressive content (long-form text, photos, marketing copy) and seek to use public facts, licensed APIs, user-licensed UGC, or our own expression.

Names and logos may be trademarks of their owners; we use them in a nominative manner where reasonably necessary to identify facilities or map providers. No trademark owner necessarily endorses VetCamps unless stated.

If you believe content infringes your copyright, contact us at support@vetcamps.app (see our Privacy Policy for process details).

7. Accuracy and limitation of warranties

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, listings, coordinates, tiers, ratings, and related information are provided “AS IS” and “AS AVAILABLE” for general informational purposes only. We disclaim warranties implied by law where allowed. We are not liable for loss or damage arising from reliance on map data, listings, or user content, including travel, financial, or safety outcomes, except where liability cannot be excluded by law.

8. Changes

We may update this disclosure or our data practices without prior notice. The date at the top reflects this page revision.
